Sejal Zota
Legal Director and Co-founder, Just Futures Law
Sejal Zota is the Legal Director and co-founder of Just Futures Law, a transformational immigration lawyering project that works to support the immigrant rights and racial justice movements in partnership with grassroots organizations. Previously, Sejal served as the Legal Director of the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild, where she developed creative legal strategies in the areas of enforcement, crim-imm, removal defense, and post-conviction. In addition, Sejal has taught and worked on local and state immigration issues at the University of North Carolina School of Government, where she authored Immigration Consequences of a Criminal Conviction in North Carolina. She has also served as an instructor in the NYU Immigrant Rights Clinic, as a public defender with the Bronx Defenders, and as a fellow at the Immigrant Defense Project. With almost twenty years of experience, Sejal has litigated and argued several high-impact decisions on behalf of individuals and amicus curiae, authored numerous practice advisories and reference materials, and is a frequent speaker on immigration issues. She serves on the Durham Human Relations Commission and holds a BA from Duke University and a JD from NYU School of Law.
